The forward has returned to Szekesfehervar after four and a half years away.
Nemanja Nikolic will continue his career in Szekesfehervar. The forward returns home after over four years of successful football playing abroad. He signed for Vidi in 2010 from Kaposvar. He went on to become a key player for the team in over a five year period. The forward won two league titles, two Super Cup’s and a League Cup during his first period at the club. He was also top goalscorer in three seasons. Nikolic scored 87 goals to put him behind Jozsef Szabo in the all-time goalscoring list for the club. He left Vidi to join Polish side Legia Warsaw and helped them to two league titles and a cup success. He also ended up as top goalscorer. His next move was to Chicago Fire in 2016 and his first season saw him top the goalscorers table again. His team made it into the MLS play-off. Niko was named Hungarian player of the year in 2017 and has played 27 times for Hungary scoring 5 goals. He was also part of the Hungarian side that did very well at the EC in 2016.
“I have finally returned home! I am delighted to be able to play football again in Fehervar. It gives me the chance to continue what I started previously at the club. I have said several times that I only want to play for one team in Hungary. That team is Vidi. I am pleased to have agreed with the owner of the club that we will have a joint future. I am very motivated and want to help the team to further success. Wherever I have gone, I have always had a good relationship with the supporters. However, my relationship with Vidi supporters is a very special one. It is an honest love, which will never go away from my side. I hope the same applies to them. They deserve it and so does the city for the team to be successful. We have everything in place for the task in hand. We need to work to make those dreams a reality” – commented Nemanja Nikolic.
I want to thank the owner of Vidi for making it possible for us to sign Nemanja Nikolic. We all know that Niko’s place is here within Hungary. I am pleased that he will be strengthening Vidi again. His physical condition is great according to the tests carried out. Knowing his mentality and the way he works, I am sure that he will very soon be in form. Naturally the coaching staff and his team mates will help him. A player is arriving in Fehervar who together with some of his team mates can show the road forward to the others in the hardest moments. The younger players will also learn plenty from him. I want to thank the owner of the club and this signing is a message about building a community and a team” – commented Zoltan Kovacs, Director of Football.
Nemanja Nikolic will wear the number 71 shirt during his second spell with Vidi.
