Transfer news: Jevhen Makarenko joins Vidi

The Ukrainian midfielder also featured at the European Championship in the summer.

According to an agreement between RSC Anderlecht and our club, 14-time capped Ukrainian international Yevhen Makarenko will continue his career at Vidi!

Born on the 21st May 1991 in Kyiv, the 186 cm tall midfielder played for Dinamo from a very young age, making his senior debut in the second division reserve team in the 2010/2011 season, and his first senior appearance for the Goverla came in 2012/2013. Between 2013 and 2017, he was a member of Dinamo's first team, a two-time Ukrainian champion and two-time cup winner, and also played in the Champions League and Europa League group stages.

In 2017, he moved to Belgium, where he scored 3 goals and 4 assists in 68 games for KV Kortrijk and 2 assists in 20 games for Anderlecht. Most recently, he was on loan at Kortrijk, where he played virtually the whole of the season - 30 games, 3 goals and 1 assist, most of which were as a defensive midfielder.

He made his debut for Ukraine's national team in 2014 against the United States and was rediscovered by Andriy Shevchenko in 2018 after two more matches - our new signing has been a regular in the squad ever since, appearing twice against Sweden and England at the recent European Championship and wearing the national shirt 14 times in total.

"The club's aim is to qualify for the group stage of a European cup competition, and to do this we need players with significant international experience. Yevhen Makarenko has played in the Champions League, the Europa League and most recently at the European Championship, he is the type of footballer who can fit into the team straight away and I am sure he will add a lot to our midfield game to make it stronger." - commented István Sallói.

"First of all, I would like to thank the club for the opportunity to wear the Vidi shirt in the future. I am happy to be counted on by such an ambitious club! I've spoken a lot with Ivan (Ivan Petrjak - ed.), who has told me good things about the conditions and the people here. I will do all I can to fit in and do my best. So far, all I know about the Hungarian league is what I have heard from Ukrainian players - Igor Kharatin and Oleksandr Zubkov, along with Ivan Petrjak - which is that it is a good and interesting league, but not easy. Since we were contacted by the club's management, I have of course started to study the local conditions, but I will really get to know Hungarian football and Hungary by playing and living here." - commented Jevhen Makarenko.

Makarenko will wear the number 8 shirt for Vidi.
